Hey Atlanta, Get Your Play On

Okay, okay. We know everyone is hunkered down inside waiting out the brutal July heat. But did you know July is also National Parks and Recreation Month? It’s time to get your play on!

Promoted by the National Recreation and Park Association, this month is dedicated to encouraging people to embrace outdoor activities and experience their local parks system. As a society, we recognize the importance of physical health. So put your money where your mouth is! Outdoor adventuring plays a huge role in our wellbeing. Get out there and celebrate this month in your local parks!

Here a few ideas on how you can get involved:

  • Enjoy a Picnic: Call your friends or your significant other, and enjoy a picnic to watch the sunset! For ease, split up who brings what. Think: wine, cheese, meats and of course dessert, and you’re set! Grab a blanket or Mosquito Control - Picnic in the Park - Atlanta, GAsome easy lawn chairs so you’re extra comfy as well. It’s a great way to get outside and switch up the typical dinner date.
  • Bring Your Fur Babies: Many parks like Newtown Park in John’s Creek, have dog parks! Usually separated into areas for big dogs and small dogs, dog parks allow you to let your pup roam leash-free in a controlled environment. Even if if your local park doesn’t have a dog-friendly feature, it’s so much fun to bring a frisbee and let your pup go crazy playing fetch!
  • Feed the Ducks: Round up the kids, grab a loaf (or two) of bread and go feed the ducks! It’s a great way to get your kiddos outside and to have them interact with wildlife. And talk about a great photo opportunity! What’s cuter than a kid feeding a sweet little duckling? Feeding the Ducklings - Parks and Rec - Dunwoody, GA
  • Get Social: Parks usually offer several different kinds of sports leagues and activities! Grab some friends or go it alone and sign up for a fun after work sports league. It’s a great way to meet people and stay active outside! If organized sports isn’t your thing, check out the walking path around Chastain Park! Great scenery set against the Buckhead skyline, the path is long and makes for a great workout with a friend! But if you’re into running, beware of the hills.

Oh and most importantly, be sure to include the hashtag #PlayOnJuly in all of your social media posts of your new activities! Remember, even though it’s hot, summer is the best time of year to be outside, so get out there and enjoy it while you can! Enjoying the outdoors is a great way to stay active, learn more about your community, and spend quality time with family and friends.

And if you come back from your new park adventures and want to enjoy the outdoor space at your own home, give Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta a call at 404-996-1381 to make sure you spend more time playing and less time swatting. We rid your yard of mosquitoes, fleas and ticks, making outside fun again for you and your family. Happy Parks and Rec Month from our family to yours!
