Meet a Joe: Chaunsey Jackson

Meet Chaunsey Jackson around the office he is known as, “The Expressive Tech.” Chaunsey is one of the newer technicians at Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta. After trying out various jobs, he decided that Mosquito Joe was his perfect fit.

Here are some fun facts about Chaunsey:

What is your favorite part of the position?

Honestly, my favorite part is being outside. I love nature and being in nature. I’ve worked in an office before, and I mean it was okay, but it wasn’t for me.  There is mental stimulation, but not much physical stimulation. I like this job more because it lets me be more active and I enjoy that.

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

Well, I used to be an Uber driver. I ended up picking up Charles one day (Charles is one of our technicians here at Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta) and we were talking during the ride. By the time I dropped him off at home he had given me his job information and told me to apply. Before I pulled off, I remember the wind blowing and knocking the leaves off a cherry blossom tree, it was so beautiful. I took it as a sign, and so I applied for the job.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline?

My favorite tagline would have to be, “Itching for a solution.” It’s just funny to me and I feel like you can apply it to so many things.

What has been your funniest experience while working here?

One day, Me and Charles were headed to treat a house. This customer wanted to meet us before we treated the home so, Charles went to ring the doorbell. I saw a little boy answer the door and then I must have turned to get my equipment because I didn’t see what exactly happened next. Next thing I know, Charles is running right toward the van, screaming “open the door, move over!” There were two big dogs behind him, chasing him! I guess they must have gotten out when the little boy opened the door. I didn’t realize what was going on until he was in the van. I laughed all the way to the next property once I figured it out.

What has been your scariest experience while working here?

I went to treat a property a day after it rained. I noticed the house was on a hill, but I didn’t think about it too much. The customer had a patch of pine straw in the yard. I went to walk over it and ended up sliding. I realized I couldn’t stop myself from falling so, I tried to just stay as balanced as possible and managed to slide all the way down the hill on the pine straw.

Learn some fun facts about Charles:

What is your favorite part of the position?

My favorite part of my job is my job itself. I personally don’t like mosquitoes; I never have and I know they bother other people too. I like being able to get rid of them, so people can feel comfortable coming outside without getting bit.

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

I was doing some work with my uncle originally, but when that slowed down, I had to find something else. I saw an ad on craigslist for Mosquito Joe and I had prior experience, so I decided to apply.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline?

My favorite line is actually, “If you’re wearing bug spray, you’re overdressed,” because bug spray smells so weird to me.

What has been your funniest experience while working here?

Well, it was a day after it had rained. I had to go spray a few houses the next day, which is a typical thing considering the rain doesn’t affect our spraying schedule too much usually. The house I had to spray was on a hill. When I went to spray the yard, I noticed it was on a slant, but I didn’t think too much of it. Then I fell and slid all the way to the bottom of the yard, I looked around and nobody saw, so I just got up and kept spraying. I know it was a funny sight.

What has been your scariest experience while working here?

I was treating a home, and I was unaware that the customer owned pets. As I made my way to the front door to inform the customer that the treatment was complete, two large dogs emerged and began chasing me. I had to run as fast as I could back to the truck. My co-worker of course found it hilarious and laughed all the way to the next house.

Meet Jason Hwang, our self-proclaimed, “fearless technician.” Jason is a technician for Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta and says there is not a bug in the world that he fears!

Here are some fun facts about Jason:

What is your favorite part of the position?
Because I’m a student, I tend to spend a lot of time sitting or even laying – I don’t get much exercise. Doing this job has helped me stay active because I get to walk around and be outside all day instead of crammed up inside studying.

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?
My friend Seth was already working here, and he loved it. He told me to give it try and even gave me a refence and now here I am.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline?
My favorite one is “your backyard, our battlefield” because it’s reality. We come there to do a job and with that in mind, that is the perfect tagline.

What has been your funniest experience while working here?
It was actually my first day on the job. I feel like I may have jinxed myself because I distinctly remember saying this wouldn’t happen and then it happened. I was putting on and adjusting my pack and the five-gallon tank attached to it fell and spilled all over me. I was soaked!

What has been your scariest experience while working here?
I haven’t had any to be honest and I’m definitely not afraid of bugs, or this would be a bad job to do.

Meet a Joe: Dion Tyus

Meet Dion Tyus, “The Fun Tech.” Dion is one of the newer technicians at Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta, but judging by his enthusiasm you’d never guess it! Even after taking a tumble in a customer’s backyard, Dion got back up with his humor intact.

Learn some fun facts about Dion:

What is your favorite part of the position?
My favorite part of being a Mosquito Joe technician is simply doing my job. I like letting families enjoy the outdoors, without worrying about bugs or pests.

What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?
Kris, The Operations Manager, referred me and I thought it sounded like something I could do.

What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline?
Life is short, Stop Scratching. I like it because it’s true, it’s realistic. I need that one on my truck.

What has been your funniest experience while working here?
I was spraying a customer’s lawn. It was a mid-day spray, so I don’t think anyone was home. I slipped onto a hill and fell into a bunch of pine straw in the backyard. I looked around to see if anyone saw, but I don’t think anyone was home, if they did, that’d be pretty embarrassing.

What has been your scariest experience while working here?
A customer had an Ivy Field on the property, and we had to walk through it to spray. I was scared because anything can jump out at you in an ivy field, and I was worried of what I might run into.

Meet a Joe: Mike Briggs

*Occasionally we like to provide a blog post that will help you get to know Joe. From our technicians to our office staff – we think our company is full of people you ought to know! *

This week we’d like to introduce you to a member of our staff, Mike! As a full-time technician for Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta, he dedicates himself to making outside fun again for others. We are so excited to have Mike as part of the MoJo family!

Here are some fun facts about Mike, so you can get to know her like we have!

Q: What is your favorite part about your position?

My favorite part would have to be the driving aspect of it. There’s a lot I enjoy about my job, but I love being able to ride around the city and find places that I didn’t even know were so close to me. This has allowed me to discover multiple parks and hiking trails, some of which are now my dog’s favorite places to go.

Q: What led you to work for Mosquito Joe?

My cousin, Mark, had been working for Jack and Marcela and said it was a great place to work. I happened to be looking for a second job at the time, so I joined as a seasonal technician. After working with them for a few months, I enjoyed it so much that I transitioned into a full-time technician.

Q: If you could explain your job to a five-year-old, how would you describe it?

Basically, I keep mosquitoes out of the yard so that when you go outside and play, nobody will get itchy bug bites.

Q: What is your favorite Mosquito Joe tagline and why?

In my opinion, the best tagline is “Did you mean to donate blood on the way to the mailbox?”. It raises awareness to donate blood, but also that you can get bitten even if outside for only a few seconds. The other tagline that I enjoy is “Friends don’t let friends get eaten”. I tell all my friends about how great of a service this is, and how much more enjoyable the outdoors have become since I started using the treatment for my own yard.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

My dream is to become a talented drummer. One day, I would love to have a studio in my own home where I could practice playing whenever I want or even have a few friends over to play together and write a few songs. Playing music with friends has had a huge impact on my life. Someday I hope I can inspire others the way that music inspires me.
