Spring Has Sprung!

March 20 marks the first day of spring which means blooming flowers, green grass, longer days and of course, SPRING CLEANING! While this may not be the best part of the season, it is somewhat necessary if you want to embrace the ‘renewal’ element that spring brings with it. We want to make your spring cleaning is a little more enjoyable with some easy and quick sanitation suggestions!

(Almost) Effortless Tips That Make A Big Difference:
1) Run a few lemon (or lime! or orange!) rinds through your garbage disposal to get rid of strange smells.
2) Deodorize carpets and soft surfaces by sprinkling a little baking soda; wait 15 minutes before vacuuming up.
3) Use a small amount of ketchup to shine up dull copper pots.
4) Wear slightly damp rubber gloves to pick up pet hair from around the house.
5) Rub a little toothpaste on chrome fixtures, such as faucets, to get them gleaming again.
6) Clean dusty potted plants with a drop of mayonnaise to see their leaves shine.

(More) Effort Goes A Long Way:
1) To clean a grimy shower, mix ¾ cups of bleach with 1 gallon of water and use a hard brush to apply the mixture to smaller areas of the shower at a time; let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub away.
2) For a sparkling oven, spray burnt on areas with ammonia and then sprinkle some baking soda with a few drops of white vinegar added. It’ll bubble for a minute or so, then wipe away with a sponge.
3) Freshen up yellowed pillows by making a solution of 1 cup powdered laundry detergent, 1 cup powdered dishwater detergent, 1 cup bleach & ½ cup borax. Let pillow soak in hot water while making the mixture, then allow pillow to soak in mixture for about 30 minutes. After the soaking is done, you can wash as normal and dry on ‘air’ setting.
4) Get rid of scratches on your wood furniture and cabinets with an easy 2 ingredient mix; ¾ part olive oil with ¼ part white vinegar. Dip a soft cloth into your magical mixture and enjoy the woodsy transformation.
5) Want to enjoy the spring season through crystal clear windows? Water, vinegar and dish soap in a spray bottle will help get the job done. Spray down windows, use a cloth to ‘scrub’ solution into glass and then dry plus buff with a wadded-up newspaper.

These are just a few tips to get your home prepped for spring. And once you get the inside of your home ready to go, feel free to give Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta a call so we can help with the outside! Our services can eliminate mosquitoes, fleas & ticks. So this spring, be sure to enjoy both the inside AND the outside of your home!

National Pizza Day

February has one of the best holidays of the year; and it’s not Valentine’s Day. But what could be better than a fat little cherub doling out true love via bow & arrow? There’s only one answer to that question & it’s PIZZA. “National Pizza Day” falls on February 9th and is the perfect time for you to indulge in a slice of gooey, cheesy heaven.  So, forget the chocolates & flowers and concentrate more on the doughy deliciousness of February’s best holiday!

Here are some interesting facts about the ‘za:

  1. Pizza is a 30 billion dollar industry in the United States.
  2. About three billion pizzas are sold every year in the US, plus an additional one billion frozen pizzas.
  3. 93% of Americans eat pizza at least once per month.
  4. The first ever pizzeria opened in Italy in 1738.
  5. The first pizza place in the United States, Lombardi’s, opened in New York in 1895.
  6. On average, every person in the US eats about 23 pounds of pizza per year.

And here’s a recipe that will help you celebrate National Pizza Day all month long:

Pear & Gorgonzola Cheese Pizza:

  • 1 (16 ounce) package refrigerated crust dough
  • 4 ounces sliced provolone cheese
  • 1 pear, thinly sliced
  • 2 ounces chopped walnuts
  • 2 ½ ounces Gorgonzola cheese (crumbled)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped, fresh chives

Preheat oven to 450 degrees then place pizza crust dough on baking sheet & layer with provolone cheese. Place pear slices on provolone cheese & finish by sprinkling walnuts & Gorgonzola cheese on top. Bake in over for 8 to 10 minutes & sprinkle chives before serving.

New Year Resolutions You’ll Want To Keep

It’s a brand-new year which is also the perfect time for some new beginnings. Instead of focusing on common goals like weight loss, saving money or getting more sleep (all great ideas, by the way), we wanted to share some suggestions for easy resolutions that are almost impossible not to keep! Get ready to recharge, renew & race into 2018!

Breathe Deeply – Here’s one that is easy and helpful to your body. Set an alarm on your phone to remind yourself to take a few deep breaths during the day. Doing this once in the morning and once at night is a great way to settle your mind. Deep breathing can also help reduce stress and promotes better blood flow throughout your body!

Give Thanks – These two small words can have a big impact. Make it a point to say thanks to anyone that makes your day a little brighter. This is especially effective for noticing all the little, nice things that people do for you during the course of the day. Vocally thanking people for their kindness is a great way to connect to those around you.

Plan Something –  While we typically remind ourselves to live each day in the present moment, planning something fun for the future can serve as a big boost to your happiness level. Your future plans could be big and involve an overnight trip with friends to something a bit simpler like picking a specific night to try out a new culinary dish at home. Either way, it will give you something rewarding to look forward to down the road!

Get Outside – Spend some time outside in the sunshine to improve your mood and your health. Vitamin D, known as “the sunshine vitamin”, supports healthy bones, your immune system and even lung functions. So grab a friend and find a beach, a trail, a park or any place that you can soak up the sun.

Speaking of outside, there’s one resolution we can help out with; keeping mosquitoes away from your yard! Our barrier sprays not only help control mosquitoes but fleas and ticks as well. If mosquitoes have you going crazy, then take a deep breath and make plans to give Mosquito Joe of North Atlanta a call so you can get back to being outside. You’ll thank yourself later!
